The use of classical guitar and solo instrument creates in this poignant meditation a gentle reminder of the theme of sadness evolving into joy, but also of joy within sadness.

It takes inspiration from the story of Martha and Mary, and also from the departure of a loved one. It can be a beautiful piece to use at those times when we find ourselves saying "good bye".

We hope to see more new works which allow pastoral guitarists to participate at more advanced levels of play. The sample score here says flute, but the CD version is beautifully played on violin.
